Holiday Happenings

We are getting that "good ole fashioned feeling" around these parts. We have had cold weather, lots of neighbors have decorated, lights abounding, Santa's sleighing around...and boy, are we (finally) getting into the holiday spirit!

Spirit? Sounds like one of the ghosts in "A Christmas Carol". Whatever happened to just plain ole Merry Christmas to All? Eh, PC all around too, eh? We don't mind so much.

Bella is more than eager to wish anyone and everyone near her, a 'Happy Holiday', 'Merry Christmas' 'Happy Hanukkah'...yeah yeah, we trained her well :-) But, she loves to add: "And, Happy Easter"...!!

She has a few DVDs featuring 'Peter CoPPontail"...(her Bella Speak is contagious)...and thinks she wants Santa to bring her Easter Eggs under the tree...as well as the too many to mention, toys!

Sigh! She is to the point now that she knows all about Santa...and what he does for good little boys and girls. Heh Heh, I can threaten her with calling Santa if she doesn't lay down for a nap, eat her foods, or in general, be a good girl....I know, Threaten? Well, hell, it works Tee Hee!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

100th Post!

Blah Blah Blah, so I lied...this is actually the 101st post to this blog. But, since I was drawing a huge blank last week, I put forth a post that was fast, easy and efficient....

AKA: I Was Lazy!

Anyhoo, here it is...the 100th (101st) post.

When I started this blog, it was because Grandma Tove (who has since passed) wanted constant updates. As she and Grandpa lived in Florida, emails, pictures and phone calls were getting so time consuming. And when you have a small one in the house, time is of the essence...so, I started the blog. Pretty much for friends and family to stay in touch and offer a glimpse into the sometimes chaotic home of two dads and a baby. (oh, and two dogs - certainly another post)!

I was so looking forward to sharing our stories, experiences and yes, even advice, to other dads, stay at home parents and well, pretty much anyone who wanted to listen and read. What I ended up with, is a chronicle of our little ones life...in pictures and stories. I download the blog to DVD regularly, so I can show her, and save for her, when she is old enough to read on her own...(boy is she gonna be embarrassed).

Certainly not what I was going for, or expected to occur...I mean, come one, there are PLENTY of cute blogs out there...highlighting cute kids...cute happenings, cute saying etc...etc...etc...and I did NOT want to be one of them....

SURPRISE! It happened anyway....

BUT, I am OK with it.

Personally, not really in the care mode of how people perceive the blog...or our lives...at least not anymore. There was a time where I was concerned. Concerned with how we would be accepted, or not, in the public arena. There were moments where I considered closing off the blog to the pubic...making it a password only follow-ship...but somehow, it didn't seem fair to those interested...and taking the time to leave great comments.

Eh, who cares. It is my blog. My life...my kid...and my thoughts...mine. I write as I speak...goofy, sometimes illiterate...but always honest. Direct. Just Me. I was never the best at writing...not in school...not for work...(although I was pretty successful in coming up with marketing materials and ad campagins...)...go figure!
We have made some incredible friends because of this blog...some who drop by once in awhile, others who will be lifelong...all in all, I am pretty happy with the outcome...and yeah yeah yeah, there will be some cool changes coming soon...in the new year...perhaps!

Anyway, I hope you do enjoy the blog...the pictures, the stories...it's all me. Take it or leave it....

and...HAPPY FATHERHOOD FRIDAY!
Join us for some cool parents, stories advice columns and more,..,..with super dads and moms.

Imagine...

After a rather emotional moment for me last friday, I remembered this post from awhile back...

(printed and edited with owners permission - HA!!)

Close your eyes for a few moments, and imagine.

A world where no person is judged based on the...

color of their skin,
love they possess and for whom they wish to spend eternity,
geographical location,
family and friends they keep,
orientations from which they were born,
home they live in,
car they drive,
job they perform,
clothes worn,
personal choices they make as women, men and as humans,
religious or spiritual beliefs ,

political beliefs,
abilities to parent!

Imagine, and you will share in what I wish for my child. I want Bella to grow up in a world we never had, but can, and will.

Love, David, Vince & Bella

Daddy's Pooped

(This pic was taken the morning after...)

As you can imagine, this past week has been pretty exhausting. Since the accident, Bella has been quite the active one....even the night we came home from the ER, she was back to her old self...runnin...DAMNIT! LOL

It has been a week of Daddy watching, waiting for the next fall...always one step (pun intended) ahead of Bella...hoping...PRAYING...it doesn't happen again. Feeling the guilt for having it happen in the first place. Apologizing over and over, to a kid who really doesn't understand sorry yet...Sigh!

Stitches came out on Tuesday...another trauma drama...but, we got through it...and yup...she said it again, as she hugged the Doc..."That was fun"

SHEEESH!

We have heard from so many of you...so thank you! Bella is fine now...scars are healing nicely...and BellaDadddy appreciates those virtual hugz! I promise to write more soon...this week? Am just too pooped!

Happy Fatherhood Friday! Walk at a safe pace over to: DAD_BLOGS.

Long Night...

Forgive this post, as I have had very little sleep last night. Yes, the pics is of a hospital band..yes it has Bella's name on it...*SIGH*. And no, sorry, not gonna post a pic of the little one for this post...it aint pretty right now!

We were all about the playing last night...grabbing a flashlight to head outside to "go see da bugs"...as Bella says...it was meant to be a fun fun fun time...

Bella has this thing lately, where she loves to run...and I mean LOVES....no matter the shoes, she will run like a banshee...In the grocery store, Starbucks, the garage, the hallways...you name it...the world is a runners track to our little ones feet. The problem is, she is kinda klutzy when she runs...hell, sometimes even when she walks.

So, last night, heading out...I had JUST finished my oft repeated command....: "Bella, do not run"...when BAMM...she bit it...heading out to the courtyard, she was a runnin, flashlight in hand...tripping over the end of the outdoor carpet...and...well...um...er...ahem...OUCH...she took a header...face first...into the pavers...and I do mean FACE FIRST! Within 10 seconds of heading outside, she had fallen...beautiful face first...

Standing up slowly, as I ran to her, she wasn't crying...yet...then the wailing...just as I wrapped my arms around her to lift her...sobbing...holding me tight.

Once inside, I'd attempted to comfort and ease her fears and crying....I told her it would be alright...she shouldn't run, as this would happen, but "Daddy will make the hurt go away...."

As I held her, pulling her back a sec to check her...I realized there was blood on her doo-rag...not allot, just a square inch patch....but SHE noticed the blood on my shoulder (from where her head had been resting...That was all she wrote..."My blood Daddy, My Blood...I blooded on you Daddy, My Blood".

Long story short, she needed stitches...two to be exact...and as anyone who knows Bella, knows...she is SO NOT COMFORTABLE with Doctors...(for lack of a better term, I have capped what should have been another one word, plural!). The nurses had to hold her down...in a "papoose" blanket, and one Doctor to clean out the wound...deaden it...and of course sew her up....believe you me...was quite traumatic....she was even yelling for everyone to "Let Go"...and exclaiming..."Daddy, I am stuck"...in the midst of all the yelling, screaming and crying....

And after? ..."Daddy, Papa, I am all better now...That was fun"

FUN? Seriously?

Happy Fatherhood Friday!

Oh The (Halloween) Horror

Here we were, all excited for our little one to experience Halloween for the first time...OK, not actually the "first" time, but truly, the one time first, that she could actually know what it means and enjoy the costumed revelry.

Bella had picked out several variations on a Princess themed costume, having received many pieces and parts for her 3rd birthday.

Fairies, Princesses, Tutu's, wands and the like. She has em all...

So, we pull out the outfit she had chosen...only to be met with a frown, furrowed brow...a stomp here and there...and..."No, I don't wanna wear THAT...EVER!" Ever?

Crap! Now what? How are you supposed to read the mind of a three year old...Wait, you can't...

So, reserved to the notion that I will either have to bribe, or pout...I chose the pout.

Nope, didn't work...EVER!

Threatening works...usually...and thankfully, this time...it did...after a half hour of whining, pouting and threatening...(all me)...I proclaimed that Halloween would be over, her friends would not come over...and we would have to throw away the Pumpkin...(as she calls it, "the Greatest Punkin Ever)...she finally relented...but was not happy about it...

SIGH!

Here is one of the pics...most of them had her frowning, looking down...yes, even picking her nose...

Eventually, she was happy as a clam...many people came by...and Bella made allot of new friends...everyone was a friend...no matter who came by, whether we knew them or not....Bella would exclaim..."Look Daddy there are my friends"..."here come my friends"..."where did my friends go"?...etc...etc...etc...

And the costume? She LOVED IT...and of course, you know where this is going...uh huh...she refused to take it off to go to bed...that was another Whiny Daddy Moment....

Oh Happy Daze!

Bubble Butt Banter...

So, Bella has this odd little toy, I think it is for the pool actually...but seriously? not sure...

In any case, she loves to run around with this little squidgy, tentacled toy...squeezing it...laughing...squeezing again...it is one of the few toys we let her run with....she was bored with scissors long ago (wink)!

IDEA (bright flash bulb inserted here) Grab the video camera...

She was pretty cool allowing her dear old daddy to film her...which has become increasingly rare these days....

Below, the latest in the video collection of little Miss Bella...She loves squeezing the poor thing till it pulses with a bright blue bubble...on it's supposed behind...thus the name of the post...and video...

Enjoy!

Friday Foto Fun

Or...I got nothing for you today, so I posted a pic, that you may help me with....

Bella loves playing dress up...what little girl doesn't, eh? She loves being a princess, a fairy, (no, not like her Daddy), and adores the tutu look...so, this particular, recent night, she was all about the fairy princess...and had new shoes...I asked her to show the shoes for the camera, and voila!

Come on, you can help me come up with a better caption, right?

Thanks!

Panties In a Wad

Ok, so the title is a bit gross...but hey, we've all had a wedgie or two...or more, in our lifetime. But hell, when Bella has one...the crack ups (pun intended) begin!

Bella has been wonderful at potty training for the most part. Number one has been a breeze...but, number 2...not so much. We had tried encouraging her previously...until she got backed up for a few days...(we call it complicated, rather than constipated)...Just our goofy way.,

Anyway, that few days was excruciating for us...not to mention poor little Bella and her behind....we realized...or rather, we were told by her Doctor..."don't encourage or push a child to poop...it will only cause them to hold it in..."...and man oh man did she....it was HUGE when it finally arrived.....oops, sorry, that's another story!

Bella is a proud one...so proud to be able to wear her new little panties....and potty when she wants...or needs. So cute! She proclaims that it is time..."Daddy - Papa, I hafta go pee pee on the potty". She then proceeds to walk, and yank at the panties as she is heading to the loo...kinda funny site to see...waddling, panties around the ankles, sitting down, and you can almost here the "ahhhhh"...ok ok, you can see her smiles...she is sooooo proud!!!

The other evening, proud as a peacock, we go through the process...several times a night actually....but this night, she didn't tell us she had to go...she just did it...several times...all on her own...of her own accord. Usually we have to help her with pulling the panties back up...but not this night.

Uh Uh, she was all about doing it herself...; "No No Daddy/Papa - Bella Do It...Bella haffa do it herself". And she did! We clapped, grinned and told her how happy and proud we are of her...

Later, and I had noticed this a few times, she was a pickin' and a grinnin'. Backside. Uh Huh...I had to tease her..."Bella, you have a wedgie?" "Nope, no wedgie Daddy, I haffa scratchie" OK OK,. "Bella when you have a scratchie you have to itch it"...(yeah I know, backwards, but we are a goofy sort).

This went on all evening...until bedtime...getting her ready for bed consists of grabbing the jammies, she lays down on the floor...and we get the diaper ready. But, this night was different...remember the wedgie? Whoops, sorry... the scratchie?!

I roared with laughter. Papa came in to see why...why was Daddy gasping for breathe, laughing uncontrollably? Bella staring into my face, shocked to see me in tears...wondering what the hell was wrong with daddy?

It turns out, Bella had indeed put her panties back on each time during the evening after her potty breaks...but...somewwhere during the process, she had inadvertently placed her right leg through the waistband of the panties, therefore..,..one leg in the waist, one leg in the leg hole...and the other leg hole? well, that turned out to be around her waist...so, imagine...tight around the waist, one legs fits and the other? Duck butt! The panties were all wrong....and I could not stop laughing! No wonder she was picking her booty all night!

Damn! Where is the vid cam when you need it, eh?

Happy Fatherhood Friday!

Happy Fatherhood Friday...and happy happy weekend!

Is it really that Happy?

Sounds cynical eh? Yah Yah, well, get your own blog :-)

Today is Fatherhood Friday, over at DAD-BLOGS. You've heard it before. I have repeated my "head on over" mantra many many times now...uh, this would be the 31st to be exact. WOW, 31? Amazing how time just blogs on by...!

"THEY" are attempting a new venue for Fridays: "Themes" Not required themes, mind you...or at least I don't think they are...and I think it is only a test...but then again, not sure there either. Hmmm.

Get it? Glad you do...cuz not sure I do. Every Friday now, we are to post to our blogs, based on themes thunk up by our DAD-BLOG friends. Or foe? Dunno. What I do know is this: I like going to my friends' blogs, seeing what they wrote this week, or that week. Peeking into their lives. The different subjects, cool vids and photo's, opinions, funny and not. Lazy and athletic...sports or ballet slippers...the one cool thing is that we are all Dads (and a few Moms too). We share who we are...our happenings, our thoughts!

Not sure I like following someone else's lead for posting to my blog. To be honest, I hate it...I have even drawn posting blanks these past three weeks...cuz I just couldn't think of things to write about...that follow the theme.... hell...any theme. Don't get me wrong, I can usually find some fun, goofy, silly, smart thing Bella has done to write about...and I LOVE my time with DAD-BLOGS...but this theme things really seems to have kicked me in the butt...affected me in ways I hadn't known before...writers block? Maybe? Then again, I am not now, nor have I ever been, a prolific writer...hell, my grammars all the worse for the wear around these parts anyway.

I am certain I could have written to, or about, on DAD-BLOGS...my thoughts, my blank-out problems, and concerns. And they would have been greeted with compassion and concern...truly. There are some amazing people over at DAD-BLOGS...lots of respect, debate's...and major cool information to absorb...however, I instead, chose to write about it here...

Many of you may have noticed recently that I'd "re-posted" a few times...and, I have noticed that the comments on my blog have lessened these last few weeks. Not gonna blame anyone for that, or point fingers...instead offering up my my Apologies for that. I take full responsibility for being a doof... It does seem odd though...being the "non-rebel" I was in school. Tell me to do something, I would do it...I may not have been happy about it, but it would have gotten done. Now? Hell, tell me to do something, however worthwhile, away from my norm...and I am gonna rebel...or as is the case here...I go blank! DUH!

Let me know what you think now...are you into the themes, or prefer that I, and others, write on our blogs as we see fit?
Fit? Naw, gotta lose another stone or two. I could have written about it this week...but hell...I was blank...

OOPSIE! Or, As Bella would Say..."SOWWEE DADDY, IS ALL MY FAULTS!"

P.S. Hello DAD-BLOGS...I hope I have more than made up for it , by linking you throughout this post ;-)

"Back to School" is for the Dog(s)

Happy 30th Fatherhood Friday!

Continuing this weeks theme over at DAD-BLOGS!

Since our little one is not of school age, I thought, how could I think of a post for back to school. Other than my own memories of my years yawning in class...or being rebellious...or thinking I knew it all, when I didn't...but, I did...sort of.

We have two dogs, Italian Greyhounds; Scuzi (means excuse in Italian), and Spago (A single strand of spaghetti, also Italian). They are both getting up there in years, Scuzi being 10 and Spago going on 15 now. Scuzi is still puppy like and oh so stubborn the Alpha Male, while Spago is the passive one, (and has been since I became their step-father almost 8 years ago), quite loving.

SCUZI

SPAGO

Spago is old. No way around it. He is overweight, almost completely deaf, and his eyes are chalk full of cataracts...but he remains, the dedicated, sweet old man.

So, back to school?

I have found, that since Spago is now deaf, he needs additional attention. Teaching in fact. You know the old saying "Cant teach an old dog new tricks"...well..I think you can! You may not see the exact results you would expect raising and teaching a child, but, the signs are there. Speaking of signs, this is where the teaching comes in.

Since he is about 95% deaf, I can no longer yell at him when he trips me by wiggling through my legs, under my feet. Oh, I still yell, but obviously he doesn't hear me...so...I have to use sign language. My own version, thank you very much:

When tripping me: Wave the hands frantically, scaring him into moving.

Dinner Time: Cup the hands, flicking the fingers up, (directly in his face) to summon him to the dinner bowl.

Running Towards Me in a Delirious State (We call it DELIRIUM): Sticking my right foot, up in the air, signaling that if he continues to come forward, he will smack my foot. Has happened a few times and no, I do not kick him.

Potty Time (we actually call it "Peeps and Poops", but he cant hear it anymore - remember?): Waving the arms and hands wildly, towards the open door, leading out to the yard.

When Following me Relentlessly Around The House: I stop abruptly, turn around, stomp, yell loudly, wave my arms and legs in frustration. (OK OK, not the best use of sign language, but I sure feel better afterwards...and he "gets it"...temporally).

And my personal favorite:

Daddy needs some love: Down on my knees, open arms as if to embrace, and fingers flicking....(He loves this as he crawls into my lap and I scratch his back... - I swear I have heard him purr).

Patience is the key. I may not have as much as I used to, being a stay at home dad, having a toddler and two dogs, but I try my best...gonna try and make these last years for our dogs some of the best!

I guess life is all about learning...from the day we are born, humans and animals alike, till the day we are gone.

Rockstar Diva!

Bella loves music, as is evident in her taste in entertainment: Lady GaGa, Jackson 5, Kelly Clarkson, NTUIT, Pussycat Dolls, and anything ELMO....she requests certian songs in the car to be replayed...over and over and over and over again.

So, recently, we had a little fun. It was later in the evening, thus the unkempt hair LOL...but hey, what rockstar these days, or in days past, had coiffed hair? HA!

Her little friend in the video is a parrot toy we purchased when she was one. Back then, she was entertained by it for oh so little a time...and he was banished to a dark corner in the house...for two years!

Recently, going through her toys, donating away, we found Polly! and now? well now, she is completely enamored with this guy...or girl...we haven't decided yet...

She talks to the bird, named "Bella Birdie", cuddles, dances and converses as though he/she were real., The bird has a wide range of fun comments, gags and such...we can make him/her say anything we want, at any time....but no...we didn't for this video...this is all Bella Birdie talking...

Not sure where Bella gets her musical talents, but she loves to rock out. We play music in the car, on the DVR and in her Drama Room and she swings and sways, bops her head up and down, and "shakes her groove thing"...just like her favorites...

Enjoy!

Fatherhood Friday Redux

Apologies to anyone and everyone, who may have been seeking a new, exciting, refreshing post here today....To be honest, frank and downright lazy...I just haven't felt like blogging much these past few weeks. But my pals over at dad-blogs.com do...so ,please, flit on over and enjoy those that have the energy this week: COOL_DAD_AND_MOM_BLOGGERS_HERE!

In the meantime, please enjoy this "original"..."revealing"..."on the edge of your seat"...lazy-ass BellaDaddy Prior Post!

SHEESH! How the hell are you supposed to enjoy playing with your kid and their new toys when it takes FOREVER to get the damn things unwrapped. Unwrapped, un-wound, un-taped...un-bound...un-everything'd.
The manufacturer makes sure more than half the battle is getting the toy out of the box, out of the wrappers, out of the Chinese finger torture ties...AAARRGH! Cant even begin to tell you how many times I have had my fingers poked, scratched and down right harassed by these "safety measures!" MADDENING at best!
My opinion: The person who invented shrink wrapping and twisty ties for toys should be made to spend a week, alone in a room, with nothing but FOOD, wrapped in all these devices...see how long they last! Can we say STARVE???
Once unwrapped, (and I did the dumbest thing, attempted to assemble while Bella was there...getting into every piece, carting them away, etc...) My Bad!...anyway, once unwrapped, I realized...NO BATTERIES! AAARGH!
Again my bad, for not reading that they were not included....so, there she is, ready to play...and gets bored after a few moments...why? NO BATTERIES!I looked everywhere for C batteries. Even taking every toy in existence in this house, unscrewing the battery compartments (another safety measure that sucks) and looking in flashlights, appliances, mp3 players...All of it...to no avail...so, she plays for a few moments then throws her little arms in the air in frustration, and walks away....I hope when I get batteries later today, she decides she likes it...!
SHEESH, I wish my batteries could be replaced...I am pooped...and all scratched up!

"HUH?"!!

Happy Fatherhood Friday Everyone...where this weeks theme is:
"The Start of the School Year" Take the big yellow bus on over
to DAD-BLOGS. C'mon, you know you wanna read the coolest blog posts alive...especially when it comes to reliving your own school daze!

I remember the first day of school, feeling so excited that I had on my new clothes, my new shoes, new pencils, new binders, new backpack...and was about to embark on a new journey...one where I would walk proud, chin up, carrying my new Partridge Family lunch box onto the yard and be the coolest kid around. SCREEEECH!.

Partridge Family lunch box??

No matter how hip the clothes, could you imagine today...Going anywhere with a Partridge Family lunch box? Unless you are a girl. (contrary to popular belief, I am not one). Although, if a vintage one, and you made like $300 bucks for it on EBay, who would be laughing now? Eh?

Sometimes, as many have said, throughout the generations...Kids can say the darnedest things. However, as we all know, they can also "repeat" the worst words, phrases and slogans. Most times it can be cute as hell, but this? This is maddening: "HUH?"

Since I was a kid I have despised this word. My Mother, Teachers, Neighbors, etc, would always exclaim to me and my brothers: "Huh is NOT a word". I hated them for it.

Like in school, when I hadda go pee pee...chest up, look the teacher straight in the eye, raise arm in the air and ask: "Teacher, can I go to the bathroom?" Miss Scankey responds (yes, that was the name of my first grade teacher)...anyway, Miss Scankey says: "Yes you can David"...so, I get up to go...and Miss Scankey then asks: "David, where do you think you are going?"

"HUH?" You said I could go to the bathroom, Miss Scankey"

Teacher responds: "HUH IS NOT A WORD" and..."Yes, I said you CAN go to the restroom, however, I did not say you MAY go to the restroom. Of course, everyone CAN go to the bathroom, but you David, MAY only go if you ask correctly"!

"HUH?" (cue entire class laughing at my expense. And I am about to piss my pants). Finally figuring it out, after being thoroughly humiliated, I made it to the restroom in time. But, after that, I NEVER forgot to use the word MAY when asking, and never, ever, ever never, "HUH'd" again in class!
And, I have ALWAYS appreciated my Teachers since. (Once I had realized the lesson learned, of course). Now? Seems I have gone through a state of regression. Anyone know of a good punctuation, grammar and creative writing class? I think my blog may be suffering LOL!

Anyway, we have no clue where Bella picked this one up. Oh sure, we slang it, we gibberish at times, we have our own silly phrases and words that Bella repeats and giggles...and we laugh. But "HUH"...UH UH, Dunno where she got it. Just about every time we ask for her, she responds now with "HUH"...GAWD I Hate that word. And, for some reason, it seems that much more grinding on the ears when a 3 year old says it...Arrrgh!

I will tell you this, by the time she starts school in two year, HUH, and CAM VS MAY will be deeply seeded in her memory. She will know within that two years, how and when to use the proper phrases... Of course, by then, one can only shudder at the thought of "those" words she will be learning in school. Even back when I was in school, all those years ago, I recall vividly, the glee and pride I felt when I learned a new word. (Bad words were the most fun!)

That is for another post!

Peace!

"Sometimes you just need a little push. Thanks Daddy."

And thanks to Stacy for this hilarious pic...
